Snapchat

LeBron James, Snapchat, why it’s changed my life and why it will change yours.

It all started with LeBron James.

Disclaimer: I’m not much of a sports fan. I, in fact, have had numerous arguments with my husband about the exorbitant amount of golf that is viewed in my house. You’ll find me at a concert hall, a boutique, a yoga class or a spa before you’d ever find me in a sports arena. And my ideal cocktail bar has absolutely no flat screens.

But a few Sunday’s ago, I simply had to watch the NBA finals. (I don’t own a single jersey, but if I did, it would have said neither Cleveland nor Golden State FYI – it would have said ‘Fair Weather.’ And I’m totally cool with that.) But you see, I had a problem. I was on an airplane during the game. I was FOMO’ing hardcore because, this time, I actually wanted to be at a sports bar watching it with friends, or even on the couch with my husband gripping our throw pillows. But instead, I was on Flight AA #2353 direct to Dallas. I had no choice to get the b-ball goods on my iPhone. However, ESPN’s live-player wouldn’t load on my phone’s web browser, so… I turned to Snapchat.

From inside the application, I was able to follow ESPN’s Snap Channel, and watch 15 minutes of the end of the game, in near real-time, from videos taken from fans sitting court side, complete with score board updates, literal glimpses inside the fast-talking timeout huddles and a razor close view of the beads of sweat dripping off the players. It was there, as I became fully engrossed in the vantage point, energy and raw and pure EMOTION of what it felt like to be a die-hard basketball fan sitting on the physical brink of one of the biggest sporting events of the year, that it dawned on me.

You guys ready for this?

(Because I’m about to drop this like it’s hot.)

I’m gonna make a declaration that I may or not have the true authority to make…yet. 😉

Snapchat is not a social media application at all.

It is the Internet 3.0.

It is a Window to the World View in three-dimension.

It is about to change the way in which we share content, consume content, discover brands, keep up with world news, vote, shop, bank, apply for jobs, story tell, reach new customers, build loyalty, access celebrities and meaningfully connect with other human beings around the globe.

Some might say Snap already is doing this, but I say it has only just begun.

It was about a year ago I became officially obsessed with Snapchat. I’ve used it primarily to get weird and silly with my intimate group of friends, play with emojis and face-filters like I’m a 12 year old and generally just entertain myself to the point of crying laughter. (Guilty as charged.)

But in the recent months, I’ve become fascinated with what this application can do for my business and for the businesses I work with. I have literally become a Snapchat junkie, consuming as much content, video, podcasts, insider info and news around this “app” that has thus far been grossly considered a sexting game for teens.

I am here to tell you that it’s not.

I am here to tell you that it has the power to change the game.

Not just the game of the world, but your own.

I am here to tell you that it will.

In just the past few weeks, I’ve upped my Snapchat game to become more strategic and effective with what I share. In a mere seven days, here’s what’s happened, and in chronological order:

  • I have increased my personal followers by 50%.
  • I was featured in the Chicago Tribune as one of the Top 10 Entrepreneurs to follow on Snapchat.
  • I booked a Podcast as a guest speaker to talk about the power of Snapchat for brands.

So here’s what’s up: expect to hear A LOT more from me about Snapchat. Like, a lot. I’m gonna teach you everything I know. From the Snap basics, to the best kept secret hacks, to the top brands and influencers to follow, to case studies from my clients and so, so, SO much more.

First thing’s first – follow me on Snapchat! You can add me by Username (@JESSICAZWEIG) directly in your app, head to my Snap URL, or add me by Snapcode using the image below to scan.

I hope this blog got you just a liiiiiiittle more excited not just about Snapchat, but more importantly, where it’s going and how you can make it work for you.  Stay tuned for so much more from me. I can’t promise it will always include LeBron James, but it WILL always include my most authentic truth.

And that, my friends, is the whole freaking point.

xo,

Jessica
